Shir Shabbat: A Sanctuary Filled with Song

Friday night’s Shir Shabbat was nothing short of electric.

Approximately 150 congregants filled the sanctuary, creating a sea of familiar faces, new connections, and uplifted voices. The joy was palpable even before the first note was sung—made all the sweeter by the return of Rabbis Daniel and Karen, whose presence added warmth and meaning to an already special evening.

From the opening melodies, the energy soared. Guest musicians brought fresh texture and depth, the expanded choir filled the sanctuary with rich harmonies, and the music seemed to carry us collectively—sometimes gently, sometimes exuberantly—through prayer. The service flowed seamlessly, each moment building on the next, weaving together reflection, celebration, and community in that uniquely CRC way.

And when the final blessings were offered, the evening was far from over.

The spirit of Shir Shabbat spilled naturally into a lively potluck, where tables overflowed with delicious dishes and conversation flowed just as freely. Laughter echoed through the halls, friendships deepened, and the glow of Shabbat lingered well into the night. It was one of those evenings where no one was in a hurry—where being together felt like exactly where we were meant to be.

If ever there was a reminder of the power of sacred song and shared community, this was it. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so vibrant—our clergy, musicians, choir members, and every single person who showed up ready to sing and celebrate.

Shir Shabbat truly lived up to its name.
