Tornado Recovery Task Force

Dear CRC Friends,

In the wake of the recent tornado, we at Central Reform Congregation recognize both the urgent need for a sustained response and the meaningful opportunity to live out our Jewish values. Our tradition teaches us the principle of Arevut—that we are all responsible for one another. It also calls us to embrace Avodah, sacred service, as a way of honoring our commitments to each other and to the world we share.

Many of our neighbors are still facing significant challenges. Cleanup and recovery efforts continue, and the path forward will require persistence and partnership. We’re asking CRC members to consider how you might be willing and able to help—whether through direct volunteer work, donating supplies, or sharing your time and skills.

Led by JD Mass, as our Volunteer Coordinator, CRC is going to be organizing ongoing opportunities for CRC members to get involved.

Volunteer needs may include:

  • Street and yard cleanup (clearing debris from vacant lots or homes)
  • Donating or lending tools and supplies (rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, gloves, eye protection, masks)
  • Providing essential items (cleaning supplies, water, food, etc.)
  • Basic home or landscaping repairs (now or in the future)
  • Sharing professional skills to support economic development and community empowerment

By stepping forward in Avodah and affirming our shared Arevut, we can help rebuild not just structures, but hope, dignity, and connection in our St. Louis home.

Join us in answering the call to sacred service.

Use the link below to share how you can contribute—CRC will connect you with opportunities to serve alongside fellow members and neighbors in need.

Our first opportunity to volunteer will be June 15. As this effort expands, there will be more opportunities to invite friends and neighbors beyond CRC to join us. And as we deepen our relationships with those we serve and work alongside, new possibilities for healing and connection will surely emerge.
