Democracy – voting, representative government, and freedom of the press, religion, and assembly – are under threat in our Country. This did not all begin on January 6, 2021, but the threats described above were exacerbated by the mob that day.

The continued spread of disinformation, the refusal of the Senate to authorize a Select Commission to investigate the January 6 Insurrection and the attacks on the members of the bipartisan House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack further confirm the threats to our fragile democracy.

Central Reform Congregation’s Voting Rights Chavurah, is committed to doing what we can to preserve and strengthen the institutions of democracy both nationally and in Missouri.

The focus at a national level are the threats to democracy caused by the Supreme Court’s abridgement of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and on current effort to restore the blessings of democracy through passage of the Freedom to Vote Act presently before the United States Senate.

Just as work on Voting Rights at a National Level is incredibly important, we seek at the State level to resist the threat to democracy posed by the Missouri Legislature and to support efforts in the Legislature to make our representative democracy more perfect. At the State level our focus will be on the threat to democracy caused by the Legislature’s campaigns to vitiate the Citizens’ Initiative Petition and to prevent early voting so vital to so many of our citizens restricted by age, work, disabilities, and status.

So join with us! We have lots to do and hope you will participate and invite five or more of your family and friends to do it with us. Click here to join us in this effort.
