Gun Violence Traveling Memorial
This June 6-June 13, Central Reform Congregation is hosting a statewide Traveling Memorial to Missouri Children Killed by Guns in 2020, representing the 46 children (ages 0-17) who were killed by gun homicide in Missouri in 2020. Each T-shirt in the display represents the age and gender of the child killed. In Missouri, firearms are the #1 cause of death among children; nearly 100 Missouri children die by firearms every year when all forms of gun violence are combined: homicides, unintentional shootings, and suicides. Constructed by the Missouri Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, the goal of the memorial is to call attention to the children killed by gun homicide in 2020 and inspire others to take action to prevent deaths in 2021 and beyond. The outdoor art installation is thought provoking and visible to passers-by without inviting people to gather as a group – thereby also satisfying COVID-precautions. Visit momsdemandaction.org/work for specific take-action measures to prevent more child homicides.
