Tisha B’Av: a day of collective mourning
The day that Jews across the world traditionally fast and mourn in remembrance of the tragedies that have been suffered throughout history at the hands of the powerful.
This Tisha B’Av, Heartland for Human Justice, a coalition that includes CRC, JCRC, NCJW and many other religious and secular organizations invites our entire community to a day of learning and lament, as we connect our ancient story to the story of those refugees and asylum seekers suffering at the hands of our government and at our borders.
We will hear from and be witnesses to the moving stories of migrants.
Our main program will be from 2-4pm, but we also invite you to join Rabbi Daniel and Maharat Rori Picker-Neiss for a Tisha B’av Talmud study from 12-2pm, of the tale that teaches that Jerusalem was destroyed and the Temple was leveled because baseless hatred was allowed to spread. We will look inward and outward as we study this ancient text with an eye toward the ways that hate poisons our world and our own inner lives.
Note: as Tisha B’Av is traditionally a day of fasting, we will not be providing food. However, anyone who needs to eat should feel more than comfortable to bring their own foods or drinks.
