Ray Slavin’s Third Bar Mitzvah

Please join us at Central Reform Congregation as we celebrate the Third Bar Mitzvah of Ray Slavin.

Ray will be called to the Torah on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM, corresponding to 12 Tammuz 5786, during Shabbat morning services at CRC.

This special celebration will take place on Parashat Balak, the Torah portion featuring the famous story of “The Talking Donkey.” A luncheon will follow the service.

Jewish tradition teaches, from Psalm 90:10, that “the measure of our life is seventy years.” If someone lives to 70, it is as if they have lived a full life, and each year beyond 70 is considered part of a new life. By 83, one reaches a second Bar Mitzvah.

As Ray told his rabbis: “If a third Bar Mitzvah is 70 years after the second, forget about it. But if it’s 13 years after the second, at 96, I have a shot.”
