What is loteria? / ¿Qué es lotería?

Loteria is a popular game in many Latin American countries (with an intriguing history you can read about here). Each player has a card with 16 pictures on them. Images are covered when the person “singing” the loteria calls out the image title and its corresponding rhyme. Rounds are played by covering different patterns of images on the card (ex. 4 in a row, 4 corners, 4 centers, whole card).

How will we play Loteria? / ¿Cómo jugaremos Lotería?

Participants may register for a team (party of 8 or less), or register individually and be placed in a team upon arrival.

Each round concludes when a participant covers the required arrangement of images on their loteria card – at which point you should shout “LOTERIA!” Teams will win points when their individual players win a round of loteria.
