Checking in with Israelis

Join Rabbi Daniel online as he hosts “private conversations about Israel, in public” with three Israeli friends:

June 9, 10 am – Ezra Lueck: Ezra, CRC’s former front desk person, has spent the year studying at a pluralistic yeshiva (Pardes) in Jerusalem. In this post Oct 7th world, Ezra lives in the middle of so many contradictions: they are called a genocide supporter by their friends at home while they stand guard to protect Palestinian farmers in the West Bank from Jewish Settler violence; they study from Religious Zionist rabbis while they live as an openly queer person in Jerusalem. Join us for a fascinating conversation.

June 16, 10 am – Nancy Lewitt: Nancy is adopted family for Karen and me (Rabbi Daniel stayed with her in November when he went to Israel). She was the Head of Student Life in Jerusalem for our first year of rabbinical school, is a Canadian-Israeli who made aliya decades ago and has raised Israeli kids with a Sabra husband, and she deeply understands both American Jewry (she’s helped ‘raise’ 100s of rabbis) and Israeli society. Join the two of us as we explore how American Jews are understanding the war, and how Israelis are understanding American anti-zionism.

June 23, 1:30 pm – Vered Karasenty: Vered is an image of modern-day Israel, personified (as well as a beloved friend of the Bogards). She is a former Jewish Agency Emissary in the United States, the grandchild of Jewish refugees from Arab lands in the 70s, and has lived most of her life on the other side of the green-line in settlements. I love Vered–and she will challenge every presupposition we have about who Israelis are and how they understand themselves and the world. Join us!
