On Friday, September 25, we welcomed Sukkot and Shabbat together with Nefesh Mountain, the Jewish bluegrass and Americana band founded by Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg.
The evening began in our sukkah outside, with an expanded oneg and a conversation with the band moderated by David Lazaroff. We then moved into the sanctuary for Erev Sukkot Kabbalat Shabbat led by Rabbis Karen and Daniel Bogard, with banjo, fiddle and close harmony carrying our prayers in a voice our sanctuary had never quite heard before.
Mandolinist David Goldenberg, a former member of the CRC house band who has toured and recorded with Nefesh Mountain, rejoined the band for the night, alongside CRC musicians sitting in. It was a joyful bridge from the Days of Awe into the harvest festival.
Special thanks and appreciation to Jennifer Baer and Chris Segal for sponsoring Nefesh Mountain’s visit to CRC.
