social responsibility
Social Responsibility Shabbat is one of CRC's longest-running social responsibility programs. On the 2nd Friday night of every month, we invite a guest speaker to speak at our Shabbat service about an issue of social responsibility. We believe that tikkun olam, the work or repairing the world, is one of the ways in which we live Torah, and so we often say that our Social Responsibility Shabbat speaker is our "Torah" for the evening.
Our speakers cover a wide range of topics of interest to our members.
Recent Social Responsibility Shabbat programs have included:
Rev. Martin Rafanan, Gateway 180::Homelessness Reversed
George Lombardi, Missouri Department of Corrections
Dedee Lhamon, The Covering House, and Katie Rhoades, Healing Action Network
Rev. John Bennett and Rev. Allen Ladage, Missouri Interfaith IMPACT
Paula Gianino, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri
Scott Emanuel and youth members of Growing American Youth
A.J. Bockelman, PROMO
Rod Jones, Grace Hill Community Services
Kylar Broadus, professor, attorney and transgender activist
Ruth Ehresman, Missouri Budget Project, and State Representative Jeanette Mott Oxford
Professor Terry Jones, University of Missouri - St. Louis
