a Jewish presence in the City of St. Louis
In every congregational survey conducted at CRC, beginning in 2007, "Increasing Access to Health Care" has emerged as the strong top social action priority of the congregation. CRC's Health Care Team works throughout the year to change our health care system through advocacy and education, with the vision of a state and country where every individual can access quality, affordable health care.
In order to ensure that our efforts are strategic and effective, CRC partners with a range of organizations working on health care-related efforts, including Missouri Health Care for All, Missouri Jobs with Justice, Paraquad, NAMI-St. Louis, and Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region. We also work with other faith congregations and organizations that share similar values about health care.
Over the past several years, our health care activities have included:
Holding educational forums about the Affordable Care Act of 2010, both prior to and after passage of the bill
Talking to state and federal legislators and encouraging them to pass the Affordable Care Act
Participating in a "National Day of Action" by rallying in the Central West End during the federal health reform campaign
Holding a non-partisan candidate forum in 2008 to ask candidates for state representative how they would make Missourians healthier
Participating in an interfaith rally to stop proposed cuts to state mental health and social services
Our efforts have been recognized by the Missouri Foundation for Health, which generously awarded our congregation with "General Support for Advocacy" grants in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
