a Jewish presence in the City of St. Louis

a place for everyone

Whether you call them “sages” or “elders,” older adults are an active and integral part of CRC’s community. CRC offers many great opportunities for involvement to those who are looking to build new relationships or simply give back to the community after retirement:

Triple Chai+ Brunch
Triple Chai Plus is a social group that engages those ages 55+ by building relationships, making connections and providing opportunities to learn and serve. We hold monthly Sunday brunch meetings with diverse speakers presenting topics of interest. We also have held dinners and evenings at the theatre. The group is open to ideas from all members for future events and/or programs.

Triple Chai Brunch Potluck & Lecture
Sunday, December 3, 10:30-12:30 in the CRC Multipurpose Room

Larry May, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Washington University & Vanderbilt will discuss: Hannah Arendt's Eichmann in Jerusalem. In the early 1960s Adolf Eichmann was secretly taken to Jerusalem to stand trial for "crimes against the Jewish people" during the Holocaust. Hannah Arendt, wrote a book about the trial, Eichmann in Jerusalem, which caused a firestorm that has still not died out. During this lecture we will consider: What kind of trial and crime was it that Arendt confronted? What were the perpetrators of the Holocaust like? Was there complicity by the Jewish establishment in the Holocaust? What role did the idea of "statelessness" play in the Final Solution? Why did Arendt argue for executing Eichmann? Contact Claire Hyman or Anita Wilson or call 314-878-3502 to RSVP. Please bring one dish to share: A-L: Entrée, M-Z: Salad or Side.

Shabbat, holidays, and religious events offer great opportunities to celebrate our annual milestones in community. Many programs are followed by an Oneg, a chance to meet and visit with other members over a nosh.

Adult Education programs are offered one weekdays, evenings, and weekends to fit different schedules. “Looking Back,” an eclectic class exploring all aspects of Jewish history, meets Fridays at noon, and Torah study meets Fridays at 2pm and Saturdays at 8:45 am. Other classes, including Adult Hebrew and our popular “University Series,” meet on weeknights throughout the year. And of course, our fabulous retreats – Congregational, Men’s, Women’s, and Couples – offer wonderful opportunities to learn and grow with other CRC members.

If you have questions about upcoming programs, or if there is a program you’d like to suggest or help plan, please contact Jen Fishering at jen@centralreform.org.
