2011 Simchat Torah Celebration

Friday, October 21
Picnic: 6:00 pm
Celebration and Service: 7:00 pm

Simchat Torah is a joyous holiday on which we unroll and re-roll the Torah so we can begin reading Genesis. With our friends from the klezmer band Klezhundeit!, we unroll the Torah from the front of the Ark to the red wall. We designed our Sukkat Shalom so that the Torah would stretch from one side of the building to the other. Come see how well we did!

Everyone present helps hold up their part of the Torah and gets to watch it roll by as we unroll it. Children (and some adults) like to sit on the floor in the aisle and watch the Torah roll over their heads. It's a happy festive holiday for the whole family.

Join us for a joyous congregational celebration of Simchat Torah and Shabbat. First is a congregational picnic, so pack your picnic basket. Next we'll unroll and reroll the Torah and dance around CRC. We'll end with a short Shabbat service.

About Simchat Torah: Rejoicing in the Torah

On Simchat Torah, we celebrate the completion of once again finishing the reading of the Five Books of Moses. Our synagogue was built so that the Torah could be unrolled on the bimah and stretched straight to a wall on the other side of the building where we start rolling the Torah back the other way so we can begin reading with Genesis 1 once again. Join us on Simchat Torah to sing, dance and celebrate!
