Purim is the telling of the Book of Esther, a melodrama in which Esther and her cousin Mordechai foil the Prime Minister (the villain) who attempts to exterminate the Jews in Persia.
We read the Megillah of Esther at CRC while booing and hissing and swinging groggers whenever the villain's name is mentioned. Many of us come in costume, as do the rabbis who weave humor and entertainment throughout the Megillah reading, frequently drawing from current events as inspiration. And, of course, we eat hamantaschen.
In addition to the "adult" Megillah reading, we host a Purim carnival for children of all ages to enjoy. Dress in costume, enjoy a shortened, appropriate-for-all-ages Megillah reading, and have fun with other CRC families!
