Chanukah

Chanukah celebrates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian army. The battle in the second century BCE was fought for religious freedom.

At CRC, we celebrate with a First Night, First Light Celebration. Individuals and families bring their chanukiyah (with holders for nine candles, instead of the traditional seven-branched menorah) and light their first candles singing songs. The kids play dreidel and collect chocolate gelt. We all eat jelly donuts and latkes.
