CRC Kicks Off Tikkun Olam Teams
CRC’s members and friends have spoken out about where they would like CRC to be most involved in Tikkun Olam – the repair of the world. More than 300 people completed CRC’s Tikkun Olam Survey. On September 30, nearly 100 people attended CRC’s Tikkun Olam Open Meeting, and another 86 people voted online in a 24-hour online extension. As a result of the feedback from the congregation, CRC will be doing major, congregation-wide work on three topics: Healthcare Access, Education, and the Environment. The work on these topics will be planned and coordinated by Tikkun Olam Teams dedicated to each issue. CRC’s three Tikkun Olam Teams convened for the first time on Sunday, October 21, to begin the process of creating our congregation-wide projects. The goal of these projects is to allow CRC to make a major impact on these issues, by targeting and focusing our resources. Nearly 50 passionate congregants attended the Tikkun Olam Team Kick-Off meeting to get us started. The Environment Tikkun Olam Team will begin by examining how CRC can be more environmentally-friendly, both in our Sukkat Shalom and in our homes. The Healthcare Team and Education Team will each be looking at where CRC can make a difference in the community, both through advocacy and through service. All three groups spent time on Sunday brainstorming ideas for projects and resources in the greater community. With training built in along the way, we’ll all gain new skills, meet new friends, and have a lot of fun. And, it’s not too late to join! We need your ideas and your energy to help us succeed. Please join any of our Tikkun Olam Teams at their next meetings: Sunday, November 4: To join one of our Tikkun Olam Teams or RSVP to attend any of the next meetings, please contact Jen Bersdale, Director of Advocacy and Communications, at Jennifer@centralreform.org or 314.361.1564 ext. 116.
