Shabbat School Curriculum

Rainbow Connection:

This is a monthly series of family based learning seminars and lavs that introduce music, art and dance to our youngest learners and their families.  Introducations to Jewish holidays, Hebrew letters, the land of Israel, making friends and more are all in store.  Studetns touch, taste, smell and hear all that they can in these fantastically designed, teacher driven, family lead experiences.

Pre-K to 2nd Grade:

The curriculum for the Shabbat School is based on a spiral model, where the students will work at their age and developmental level, toward achieving the following goals:

1. Recognition of Aleph-Bet and all vowels, as well as other         everyday Hebrew vocabulary.

2. Identify Barchu, Shema, Mah Tovu, Hinei Mah Tov, and    

      Mi Chamoch.

3. Identify and help to lead in basic rituals of the Shabbat           Table.

4. Start to identify and recognize major stories from the

    Torah, focusing on the books of Genesis and Exodus.

5. Identify and recognize major vocabulary terms and themes

    of the Jewish Calendar (i.e. Holidays).

6. Recognize the Land, People, and State of Israel as a focal

    point in Jewish identity.

7. Recognize and learn to live Jewish values.

8.  Recognize and areas and symbols of the synagogue.

God Talk:

Using a time tested system of trust buiding and engaging in Tikkun and na open and loving forum for students in third grade through fifth grade, Master Teacher, Charlene Ehll encourgages and strengthens students' spiritual development by inviting kids to question and explore spiritually, ritual, Jewish ethics, history and current events.  Text: You be the Judge, engages learners in interdisciplinary excersizes that expand the mind and open the heart.
