TIKKUN OLAM IN THE COMMUNITY

CRC provides many opportunities for members to contribute to the holy work of tikkun olam, the repair of the world.  However, many of our members also do tikkun olam through other organizations, or even as part of their daily work.

The following opportunities, while not official CRC activities, are listed as a service to our members and friends who might be interested in helping.

Jewish Food Pantry Seeks Volunteers

The Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry (HKJFP) at the Jewish Family & Children’s Service building is looking for volunteers.  The food pantry is extremely busy and the demand keeps increasing.  We are looking for weekday volunteers to help sort and pack food for families in need.

Volunteering is a great way to stay active and involved while benefiting others!   Please call Kelly Mueller at 314-812-9386 (or email kmueller@jfcs-stl.org) if you would like more information on volunteering at the HKJFP.  Thank you!

People interested in making a difference in the lives of Jewish older adults are needed as volunteer drivers to deliver hot kosher dinners to the homebound in the University City area. Volunteers are needed for approximately one hour on various days of the week. We are interesting in speaking with individuals, families or organizations who may wish to “adopt-a-day” to deliver dinners. For more information please contact Florence Schacther, Director of Resident and Community Services, Crown Center for Senior Living, 314-991-2055, fschachter@crown centerstl.org.

Hope House Needs Tutors
Bonnie Reese, director of Hope House (St. Louis Transitional Hope House, Inc) in the Wellston Loop area (1611 Hodiamont, just a block north of MLK, behind the old streetcar turnaround), is in need of tutors. This is an extremely worthwhile program. Sessions meet twice weekly, Tuesday and Thursday, 6–8 pm. Students are adult, non-traditional students, 25+ years of age, working toward their GED.10-14 students attend, and one-on-one help would be optimal. Math is a major area in which they need assistance; reading com-prehension is another. Good people skills to provide positive motiva-tion will also be important. Please contact: Ms. Bonnie Reece, Ex-ecutive Director at (314) 382-3801 and breece@ hopehousestl.com
