Calling all women who love to sing! The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Choir will begin its fifth year with an informational meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at a member’s home in University City. The intergenerational, multi-denom-inational choir welcomes women of all ages, backgrounds and singing abilities. No auditions are required. If you love to sing and want to learn a variety of Jewish music, please join us at the Sept. 2 meeting.

The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Choir will be directed this year by Betti Blumoff, a nationally certified music educator with 36 years of experience. She succeeds the choir’s found-ing director, Cantor Adina Frydman, who has relo-cated with her family to New York. Blumoff’s background includes serving as Choir Director at Congregation B’nai Amoona, teaching in the St. Charles Public Schools and at the Solomon Schechter Day School, and providing private piano and voice lessons for 35 years. Blumoff is currently the vocal music teacher at the Saul Mirowitz Day School-Reform Jewish Academy.

The choir practices once a week and performs several times a year. Past performances have included participation in St. Louis Circle of Jewish Music concerts and the commu-nity Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) celebration, and Chanukah concerts at Covenant House and the Crown Center.

Nishmah & Interfaith Partnership/Faith Beyond Walls Bring Together Teens

Nishmah and Interfaith Partnership/Faith Beyond Walls are collaborating in a new initiative called Faith Youth Impact or FYI.  FYI will bring teenagers of various faiths together to learn from each other and to impact their communities through meaningful service.  The FYI series will meet three times during the school year, each session focusing on a different theme. Teens will explore each theme through text, a service component and a “challenge” to take into their lives and communities.  FYI is open to all high school students (male and female). Regis-tration is encouraged for all three session, but students are welcome to attend a single session as well. First session to be held on Sunday September 7 will focus on the theme of “Hospitality: How Do We Welcome Others”, from 2-5pm at Congregation Bais Abraham, 6910 Delmar Blvd.  RSVP requested to Ronit Sherwin at Nishmah at 314-862-2777 or to ronit@nishmah.org.  $10 participation fee per session.
